What I like about my work
It is very satisfying to have the sense of helping your clients achieve the results that they want and need to get.
What I’ve done in the past
I started my career at Kensington Swan in Wellington, where I worked for about 4 years. I then moved to the Dunedin office of Anderson Lloyd in 2001, and have been here ever since!
I have been involved with a variety of clients and matters whilst at Anderson Lloyd, including:
- Contract consultancy work for BHP Billiton
- Secondment and advisory work with Oceana Gold NZ Limited
- Being involved with and acting on several South Island based takeovers including H&J Smith, Arthur Barnett, Richmond Limited and Tasman Farms
- Financing and prospectus work for a number of finance companies and Westpac
- The listing of several companies on NZX and subsequent issues of shares and ongoing legal support
- Commercial property sales (including the sale of the Barrington Mall in Christchurch)
- Commercial leasing for a large number of commercial landlords
In addition I have been a member of the New Zealand Law Society Commercial & Business Law Committee and made submissions on behalf of a number of clients in relation to various parts of legaislation including the Financial Advisors Act 2008.
My approach to working with my clients
My clients need good technical, and practical, advice. I always consider their wider business needs and then guide them in the right direction so that they can get to where they want to be.
I enjoy building really strong relationships with my clients and believe it's important to be approachable and easy to contact.
What I enjoy at work
I like working in the team environment and the fact that I am able to specialise in areas of law that interest me.
What I enjoy outside of work
Golf and being with my family – not necessarily in that order. Golf is a real passion of mine and I play as much as possible, off a low single figure handicap!
What I enjoy about living in the South Island
I like the proximity to my family. I also find that people in the South Island tend to be really down to earth. They look for ways to solve problems and don’t believe in the word can't!
