What I like about my work

Life is never dull as a resource management lawyer.  Whether developing strategy for a large scale retail proposal or leaning on a fencepost talking to dairy farmers, there is usually an RMA issue to be debated and resolved.  It is rewarding to see the results of team effort on major projects and I particularly enjoy getting out from behind my desk to spend time on site.

What I’ve done in the past

I commenced practice as an environmental specialist in 1996, working in a large national law firm in Auckland before moving to another national firm in Christchurch in 1999.  I then spent a period of time in London as part of the environmental, planning and regulatory team for a leading 'magic circle' international law firm, advising on environmental risks arising from mergers and acquisitions.

I returned to New Zealand in 2003 and joined Anderson Lloyd's Christchurch office.  The national reputation of the resource management team and the opportunity to focus on South Island issues were what attracted me to Anderson Lloyd.

My approach to working with my clients

The multi-disciplinary nature of resource management law means that it important to bring together the right experts at the outset.  The practice of resource management law often requires being creative in devising solution that is practically achievable, but also aligns with client needs.

What I enjoy at work

The people at Anderson Lloyd, the collegial working environment and the outstanding quality of the resource management work.  Our team is proud to have played a role in some of New Zealand's most complex RMA projects in recent times.

What I enjoy outside of work

Anything to do with mountains.  I have enjoyed downhill ski-racing (largely on a social basis) since the early 1980s.  I also enjoy snowboarding and nordic skiing, as well as spending time with my husband and two children at our lifestyle block on the Canterbury Plains.

What I enjoy about living in the South Island

Without question, it has to be the Southern Alps, particularly the spectacular view of the mountains from my office window.
