What I like about my work
I enjoy the challenges, pressure and excitement that litigation brings. I like advising clients on how best to resolve a dispute as well as researching, formulating and presenting arguments.
What I’ve done in the past
I have litigated for clients since qualifying as an attorney in South Africa in 1997. I acted mainly for a large Financial Institution in South Africa until August 2006, when I was employed by that Financial Institution to assist set up and manage its in-house litigation and disputes team. I was the General Manager of that team until my immigration to New Zealand in April 2008.
I joined a well known Christchurch firm on my arrival in New Zealand and worked as a consultant in that firm's civil litigation department, before joining Anderson Lloyd in August 2011.
My approach to working with my clients
I work hand in hand with my clients to achieve a favourable outcome for the legal issues they face. Where possible, I highlight a matter's strengths and weaknesses to assist my clients to make well informed commercial decisions about the litigation and disputes they face. I endeavour to give my clients an accurate indication of the costs of a matter and I pride myself in my ability to maintain long standing business relationships with my clients.
What I enjoy at work
I enjoy working with a team of good humoured and hard working lawyers.
What I enjoy outside of work
I like to spend my spare time with my family and friends. I enjoy exploring new places in New Zealand with my family, a game of golf every now and then and mountain-biking in the forest with my children. I enjoy going to the gym, playing field hockey and watching my children play sport. I am also a keen gardener and I have a passion for the outdoors.
What I enjoy about living in the South Island
Living in the east of Christchurch has certainly had its challenges over the last year or so, but I am committed to being part of the rebuild of our beautiful city and excited about its future prospects. I enjoy living close to the mountains, beaches and forests and having a range of outdoor activities to do. The sense of community in Christchurch is tangible and I am proud to be a member of such a resilient and tenacious city.
