What I like about my work
I like the excitement of being involved with my clients’ business growth and watching them achieve their goals.
What I’ve done in the past
I studied law part-time whilst working full time at the Land Registry. When I graduated in 1970, I joined Sim McElrea & Partners, one of Anderson Lloyd’s legacy firms. I became a Partner in 1973.
My approach to working with my clients
I like to be involved with my clients’ businesses and to be a part of the planning and decision making process. I like to think that I am most effective at the front end of business and that I drive my clients to succeed. I have a constructive approach and always provide advice that highlights solutions to overcome any potential barriers.
What I enjoy at work
I like the fact the firm is made up of teams of experts that I can call on. Having been with the firm for many years, it has been really rewarding to be part of its growth from a two-partner firm to the largest in the South Island, and to have contributed to its direction.
What I enjoy outside of work
I enjoy spending time with my family, and like skiing and boating. I am also a keen traveller; and have visited many different destinations, including Europe, South America and Trade Missions to China and Japan.
What I enjoy about living in the South Island
The South Island has been extremely kind to my family. We enjoy living here. We have a wonderful lifestyle, benefit from a good professional career and take pleasure in the wonderful countryside. Also important is the opportunity to be the lawyer for many challenging and successful commercial ventures.
