We live by our values

Even though we have been in business for almost 150 years, we are a go-ahead firm, with a strong culture, young ambitious partners and a close knit feel.  We live by our core values of EXCELLENCE, INNOVATION, TEAMWORK, PASSION, LEADERSHIP AND INTEGRITY.

Choosing us

There are plenty of real reasons for choosing us:

Work with acknowledged experts - Our partners are acknowledged leaders in their field. They're hands-on in the business and you'll have a lot more to do with them on a day to day basis  In fact, one on one partner time is one of the things most valued by our people.

Ongoing feedback - During your first two years with us, you'll be given ongoing feedback about your progress. This is done informally throughout the year, and also at 6 monthly appraisal meetings. These meetings provide dedicated time to discuss your progress and future training requirements with your supervising Partner, and our HR Manager, Kelly Pankhurst.

A supportive culture - We'll give you work that will challenge you, but at the same time, you'll be welcomed and valued for your skills and we'll offer you the support and interaction that comes with being in our highly collaborative and innovative work environment.

What we offer - In addition to stimulating work, regular reviews, constructive supervision, leading technology, internal and external professional development programmes, you'll receive a competitive salary that is formally reviewed every year. Most importantly, we make sure that hard work and results are recognised.  As part of our employment package we also offer:

  • an annual healthy living payment to encourage staff to participate in a health and well being related activity
  • an invitation to join the firm's medical insurance group scheme
  • reimbursement for eyesight tests
  • study and graduation leave
  • flexible parental leave arrangements
  • matrimonial leave
  • subsidised legal advice for staff and their families.

Then there's the great social and sporting team opportunities, celebratory work team lunches and dinners, mid year and Christmas staff functions, Friday night drinks, fresh fruit in our staff cafeterias and participation at client and firm sponsored events – these are all part of the experience of working here.

Insider Profile

Bryce Rayner – Summer Clerk 2009/2010 - Summer clerking at Anderson Lloyd was an amazing way to spend my summer.  The experience really gave me an idea of what it is like to work in a premier New Zealand law firm.  I had the opportunity to undertake research and write opinions on a range of interesting and challenging matters, as well as attend client meetings, court and Christmas social events!  The people at Anderson Lloyd truly made my time enjoyable – from the support staff to the partners, they were always happy to answer my questions and took the time to make me a part of the team. As a student, this is the most valuable career experience you can get.

Claire O'Connell – Summer Clerk 2010/2011 - Anderson Lloyd's summer clerk program was a great way to spend the summer months. I really appreciated how everyone made an effort to welcome and help me along the way. The professional and friendly demenaour of the staff made the experience so enjoyable- as did the many social events!  Attending meetings, court hearings and tackling a wide variety of research tasks allows insight into how law works in the "real world". These kind of experiences just aren't available in law school, which is why I would highly recommend summer clerking at Anderson Lloyd.
