Ben has been a commercial lawyer for over 15 years and has worked in New Zealand and London. Ben has advised on a range of corporate and commercial law issues including a number of high-profile projects and transactions.

He specialises in corporate and commercial law with particular expertise in company law, banking and insolvency law, commercial transactions, and securities law. He enjoys the cut and thrust of complex transactions and helping businesses and entrepreneurial people to execute their plans and to prosper.

Ben is regularly engaged by banks and other financial institutions to provide transactional and restructuring and recovery advice.

Ben gives people timely, strategic commercial legal advice. He has a broad range of commercial law experience and brings that to bear on the commercial issues his clients face. He likes to understand the internal and external context in which his clients operate and the ‘big picture’ for them and to tailor his advice accordingly. He avoids being overly ‘legalistic’ in his approach.

Ben is a partner based in Christchurch and has lived most of his working life in the city. Ben is excited by the many opportunities that the Christchurch rebuild presents and he is relishing advising clients seeking to rebuild, grow and prosper in this critical time for the future of Canterbury.

Ben is a member of RITANZ (Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association New Zealand), the Banking and Financial Services Law Association and the Institute of Directors. Ben is also a presenter for the New Zealand Law Society’s Introduction to Company Law workshop.

Ben is also recommended as a banking and finance lawyer in the Legal 500 (Asia Pacific).
